ok, so i have been watching a show on the discovery channel about noah and it got me thinking....let's say that the whole world was covered in a floor about 6000 years ago.
is it even possible to have the earth populate itself in just 6000 years?
also, and more interesting, how can all of the different breads of animals get to all of the contenants and repopulate themselves in that short amount of time as well???
Where did Noah put the insect species and plants and seeds
The Bible doesn't state that every kind of seed or insect was taken on the Ark. But, if they were, these don't take up a lot of room, also, "species" is a modern classification system- species micro-evolved from "kinds", the Biblical term- from one sparrow, all the "species" of sparrows, from one raptor, all the "species" of raptors, etc, etc, etc.
and where did the dove get the olive branch from....
Do I really need to answer that or are you really that dense?
the questions are endless....
And should be, just as in the case of the fairy-tale theory of gullibillity evolution
and yes the continents including Australia all broke off in just 5 thousand years!!
Some creationists (Young Earth Creationists) hold the creative days to be 1,000 years each. Others see the creative days as a "period of time". In any case, radio carbon dating is just another imaginary hoax that bears no resemblance to reality, so who knows? http://www.fountainmagazine.com/articles.php?SIN=4d29c33e6e&k=375&608332006&show=part1 http://www.christiananswers.net/q-aig/aig-c007.html http://www.creationscience.com/onlinebook/FAQ22.html One of the creationist explanations for continental drift and it's cause being the flood can be found here: http://www.icr.org/article/4307/ Excerpt: "A longstanding conundrum for long-age geology thinking is summed up by Purdue University Professor Eric Calais: “When we calculate the forces available from plate tectonics, we find that they are not large enough to do the job [of spreading continents apart].” 1 But he is hopeful that his latest observations will help resolve this issue...But if this fault has been active only since the completion of the Flood—a matter of thousands (rather than millions) of years ago—one would reasonably expect to see the evidence of the small amount of plate friction history that this region reveals. Geophysicist John Baumgardner has developed a model of tectonic plate movement that is incompatible with long-age processes, but is compatible with physics and also answers the fundamental dilemma of how that much mass was moved. With gravity as the main driving force, the continental crust seems to have undergone rapid, runaway motion from its originally created position as a consequence of the earth-destroying Flood. 3 So dyking, though an interesting phenomenon, is entirely incapable of explaining continental movement. It would require an event on the scale of a global Flood, one “whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished.” 4"
Dumb!
Perhaps you should stop looking in the glare of your monitor whilst typing! BA- Silly, gullible macro-evolutionists!

Kent Hovind rocks! He's a lot of fun to listen to, and it's fun to imagine a world like the Flintstones when man and dinosaur lived together. Of course, what he claims is total bat-sh*t crazy pseudo-science nonsense, but that's what makes his lectures fun!A response (continued in many parts):
That's the best you've got?
Lol.
So the fact that Kent has a crackpot theory or two negates the rest of his presentation?
How disingenuous.
Look, the bottom line is that there are as many crackpot theories proposed by many evolutionists (probably many more, actually), as there are by many creationists.
Very few creationists EVER subscribed to crackpot theories such as the one mentioned in the video, I know I have never met anyone amongst hundreds of other creationists who got more than chuckle at such lunacy.
But how many evolutionists got rabidly fired up by these insanely stupid theories, finds, frauds, and hoaxes?

The Nebraska man (also called Hesperopithecus haroldcookii) was a case of speculation. Nebraska man was promoted based on the find of a single peccary-like tooth (wild pig-like tooth). Dr. Henry Fairfield Osborn, head of the Department of Palaeontology at New York’s American Museum of Natural History, wrote the following in the press concerning Williams Jenning Bryan:
“The earth spoke to Bryan from his own state of Nebraska. The Hesperopithecus tooth is like the still, small voice. Its sound is by no means easy to hear... This little tooth speaks volumes of truth, in that it affords evidence of man’s descent from the ape."

we all know it wasn't december.
the wt has always said the first part of october.
the reasoning i remember is that they calculate that jesus' ministry was 3-1/2 years long; and since jesus died in the spring of 33 ce, he must have been baptized in the fall of 29 ce.
According to a research team down under, Jesus was born in the summer 2BC. This conclusion is backed up by astronomical data involving the mysterious Bethlehem Star.
http://www.news.com.au/story/0,27574,24764536-5014262,00.html
But, doesn't the WT teach that Christ was a toddler when visited by the Magi ...
Actually, the Scriptures teach this:
"When Herod saw that he had been tricked by the wise men, he flew into a rage and ordered the execution of all the male children in Bethlehem and all its neighboring regions who were two years old and younger, according to the time that he had determined from the wise men." - Matthew 2:16
Christ was not an infant when the Magi came to visit (they knew it was time when they journeyed), he was nearer two years, a toddler.
Again, the Scriptures do not teach that the star of Bethlehem occured when Christ was born, rather when the Magi visited Him, around age two:
"After listening to the king, they set out, and the star they had seen in the east went ahead of them until it came and stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they were ecstatic with joy. After they went into the house and saw the child with his mother Mary, they fell down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasure sacks and offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they left for their own country by a different road." - Matthew 2:9-12
Also note that toddler Jesus was in the house, not the manger, as commonly depicted.
Now in regards to the article you posted, yes, the astronomer has apparently found the celestial phenomenon that caused "the star of Bethlehem".
In regards to the OP, does the Bible indicate when He was born? The biblical accounts point to the Autumn of the year as the time of Jesus' birth, based on the conception and birth of John the Baptist, to whit:
Since Elizabeth (John's mother) was in her sixth month of pregnancy when Jesus was conceived (Luke 1:24-36), we can determine the approximate time of year Jesus was born if we know when John was born. John's father, Zacharias, was a priest serving in the Jerusalem temple during the course of Abijah (Luke 1:5). Historical calculations indicate this course of service corresponded to June in that year. It was during this time of temple service that Zacharias learned that he and his wife, Elizabeth, would have a child (Luke 1:8-13). After he completed his service and traveled home, Elizabeth conceived (verses 23-24). Assuming John's conception took place near the end of June, adding nine months brings us to the end of March as the most likely time for John's birth. Adding another six months (the difference in ages between John and Jesus) brings us to the end of September as the likely time of Jesus' birth.
Interestingly, the article you linked to has this date for the appearance of "the star of Bethlehem": June 17, 2BC.
Further corrobation of this time is obtained from Luke's account:
"Now in those days an order was published by Caesar Augustus that the whole world should be registered. This was the first registration taken while Quirinius was governor of Syria. So all the people went to their hometowns to be registered. Joseph, too, went up from the city of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to the city of David called Bethlehem, because he was a descendant of the household and family of David. He went there to be registered with Mary, who had been promised to him in marriage and was pregnant. While they were there, the time came for her to have her baby, and she gave birth to her first child, a son. She wrapped him in strips of cloth and laid him in a feeding trough, because there was no place for them in the guest quarters. In that region there were shepherds living in the fields, watching their flock during the night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. Then the angel said to them, “Stop being afraid! Listen! I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people. Today your Savior, the Lord Messiah, was born in the city of David. And this will be a sign for you: You will find a baby wrapped in strips of cloth and lying in a feeding trough.”
Suddenly a multitude of the Heavenly Army appeared with the angel, praising God by saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and peace on earth to people who enjoy his favor! Then the angels had left them and gone back to heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let's go to Bethlehem and see what has taken place that the Lord has told us about.” So they went quickly and found Mary and Joseph with the baby, who was lying in the feeding trough. When they saw this, they repeated what they had been told about this child. All who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds told them. However, Mary continued to treasure all these things in her heart and to ponder them. Then the shepherds returned to their flock, glorifying and praising God for everything they had heard and seen, just as it had been told to them." - Luke 2:1-20
Note that infant Jesus was wrapped in strips of cloth, in a feeding trough in a manger, with sheperds tending their flocks, while a Census taking place required Joseph and Mary to travel to Bethlehem, because everyone was to register for the census.
December (January, February slightly warmer daytime temps) is the coldest month in Jerusalem and Bethlehem, with average 44 degree F daytime and below freezing on many nights. It is a rainy and cold, with occasional snow, and the roads would not have been good for crowds of folks traveling to register. No way would any of the above events have occurred then. For a primarily agrarian society such as then existed and was required to register in the census, a post-harvest time such as late September/early October would have been the likeliest time.
That would further confirm the Bible account.
BA- Jesus Christ born late September, possibly early October. What year? It depends on what sources you believe. On that there are many possible answers. But if the astronomer in the linked-to article is correct, it would place the year around -3BC.
so yesterday i was watching the news and i saw something about secret santa.
there is this movement of people who hand random strangers $100 bills at places like laundry mats and thrift stores.
so i was "moved" and decided to give it a shot.
BA, it was the attitude I was getting about it that hurt my feelings. It's a valid point. Thanks for stating the point politely and helpfully rather than criticizing me.
I feel like a time when I was needing support, I get flamed. I keep running through my head things like "But when I _______ and when I __________no one ever found out about it. It's not like I go around bragging about myself all the time."
I was seriously concerned that I was being a poor steward of the money God had given me when I started this post. You all have given me a lot to think about and encouraged me. I thank you.
I honestly have tears in my eyes and feel wrongly accused. I may not come back to this board.
Aww,
Don't do that!
Look, we are all growing.
I made a similar mistake at one point and that is how I learned, too!
You did a very, very, kind thing!
Continue giving, along with what you have learned.
God Bless!

Vinny, put a sock in it dude. She probably doesn't know anyone here in real life, and she probably is inspiring some of us to listen to our hearts when there are good thing in them and shut down our brains for a little.
Vinny quoted a Scripture that clearly means what it says.
However, we all make mistakes, even when we have the best intentions.
All can grow as Christians if they realize that charitable giving is a Christian requirement, as is keeping your deeds of charitable giving to yourself.
That is the Scriptural dictate.
BA- Clarifying further.
so yesterday i was watching the news and i saw something about secret santa.
there is this movement of people who hand random strangers $100 bills at places like laundry mats and thrift stores.
so i was "moved" and decided to give it a shot.
Here's the facts:
Rene did a kindness to a fellow human, good for her!
Charitable giving is a Christian requirement.
She practiced the Golden Rule.
It is a fact that every Christian is in a state, not of stagnancy, but of growth, endeavoring to be more like our master, Christ.
Each is on an individual path towards spiritual growth.
That is where the dispute on this thread originates.
In regards to this dispute:
Matthew 6:2 and Matthew 7:1-5 must neccesarily be read in context, they are not contradictory by any means.
Matthew 6:1-4 (in context):
1"Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of people in order to be noticed by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. 2So whenever you give to the poor, don't blow a trumpet before you like the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets so that they will be praised by people. I tell you with certainty, they have their full reward! 3But when you give to the poor, don't let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4so that your giving may be done in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you."
6:2 Therefore when thou doest thine alms. This is the first example. The wrong way, that of the hypocrites, is described. The Greek word rendered hypocrite means a theatrical actor, one who is not real, but acts a part. Their method was to give ostentatiously. In our age the world rings with the praises of the millionaire who gives a few thousands, but is silent concerning the humble ones who have taken from their necessities and given to the same cause.
Do not sound a trumpet before thee.
This seems to be a proverbial expression to denote the making of a thing publicly known. The meaning is,when you give to the poor, do not make a show of it.Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary
6:1-4 Our Lord next warned against hypocrisy and outward show in religious duties. What we do, must be done from an inward principle, that we may be approved of God, not that we may be praised of men. In these verses we are cautioned against hypocrisy in giving alms. Take heed of it. It is a subtle sin; and vain-glory creeps into what we do, before we are aware. But the duty is not the less necessary and excellent for being abused by hypocrites to serve their pride. The doom Christ passes, at first may seem a promise, but it is their reward; not the reward God promises to those who do good, but the reward hypocrites promise themselves, and a poor reward it is; they did it to be seen of men, and they are seen of men. When we take least notice of our good deeds ourselves, God takes most notice of them. He will reward thee; not as a master who gives his servant what he earns, and no more, but as a Father who gives abundantly to his son that serves him.
Matthew 7:1-5 (NIV):
1"Stop judging, so that you won't be judged, 2because the way that you judge others will be the way that you will be judged, and you will be evaluated by the standard with which you evaluate others. 3"Why do you see the speck in your brother's eye but fail to notice the beam in your own eye? 4Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when the beam is in your own eye? 5You hypocrite! First remove the beam from your own eye, and then you will see clearly enough to remove the speck from your brother's eye."
So, reading the above Scriptures and commentary clarifies the matter.
It is correct to give freely, it then behooves us to "not let our right hand know what our left is doing", not making the gift publicly known, not telling anyone, as God has seen our gifts of mercy, and will reward us without our telling anyone else about it.
I know that if you even tell ONE person of such an act, it will spread like wildfire, so better not to tell anyone.
After all, our heavenly Father sees what we do, and it strengthens our faith when we allow Him to reward us for our faith, rather that seeking the rewards of other human's praise.
That is the point to be made of the Scriptures being quoted thus far on this thread.
BA- Clarifying.
